We have completed the first quarter of this school year. This is quite an accomplishment! For many of our students, this year is their first school experience. Our students are learning and growing so much! It is exciting to watch our students as they master new concepts and skills.

There are many factors that contribute to the success of our students. Two of the most important factors are teachers and school/family relationships. Our teachers have an incredible impact on your child's academic success. We are fortunate to have a team of educators at Wilson who endeavor each day to make learning fun and exciting. They collaborate with one another to provide the best possible learning experiences.

Another factor that has a great impact on student success is a positive school/family relationship. Our school works very hard to maintain positive communication with the families we serve. We appreciate your support! Children succeed when the school and the family work cooperatively.

August...a month of new beginnings. I love this time of year because everything is fresh and new! We have been hard at work over the summer to prepare for the #bestyearEVER. We have lots of exciting changes this year. We have added three sections of classes to our roster. We are excited to begin the Wee Little Wardog program. This program is designed for children who are three years old. Mrs. Hoffer will be teaching this class and Mrs. Myers will be her assistant. Our Pre-K classes will be taught by Mrs. Eby and Mrs. WIndle. They will be assisted by Mrs. White and Mrs. Rogers. Kindergarten classes will be taught by Mrs. Beard and Ms. Schmitt. Our first grade teachers are Mrs. Mustain and Miss Ogden. Our second grade teachers will be Ms. Ferrier and Miss Bearden. Third grade classes will be taught by Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Nino. Our Special Education teacher is Ms. Johnson, assisted by Mrs. Mosby, Mrs. Braund, Mrs. Terry, and Ms. Dycus. Mrs. Angie Murphy will serve as our instructional coach. Our specials teachers are Mrs. LeFay (PE), Mrs. Gilmore (music) and Ms. McCain (art).  Mrs. Kerr will be running our computer lab and Mrs. Lamb will be assisting in the Library. Our teacher assistants are Mrs. Portenier and Mrs. Walser. Our custodians are Mr. Springer and Mr. Owens. Our meals will be prepared by Mrs. Roberson and Mrs. Bottero in the cafeteria. Mrs. McCord will keep things running smoothly as our school secretary. This is the amazing team of educators who will be pouring love, care, and support into your children as they teach them this year.

Many parents wonder how they can help their children be successful in school. I find that a strong relationship between home and school is imperative. I ask that as this year begins you make a commitment to maintain positive communication with your child's teacher. There may be disagreements over the course of this year. If this should happen, please remember that we love your child. We're human and may make mistakes. We may fail to relay a message or miss getting a note from your child's backpack. I ask that you extend us grace if we should make a mistake and remember that we love your child.

Another way to help your children be successful in school is to maintain an evening schedule that provides for appropriate rest. It's difficult to focus on instruction when we're tired. Finally, I would encourage you to read each day with your child. You can read, your child can read, or you can read together...just read.

You are your child's first and most important teacher. Your child is your most precious treasure. We do not take our responsibility to care for your child lightly. This year we will love your child, we will care for your child, and we will teach your child.

Your principal,
Courtney Murphy
